The land that defines us

It may seem to be stating the obvious but New Zealanders are islanders.  All our original settlers came by the sea.  Today we fly, and that gives us the opportunity to gaze down upon the breathtaking beauty of the sea caressing the land and take in, at a glance, the lay of the land that defines us.  You can understand why New Zealanders affinity to the coastline runs as deep as the ocean.

It is hard to imagine living landlocked, where the edge of your nation is some arbitary line on a map decided by others or is subject to the whim of a changing river course.  We are drawn to the coast.  We all harbour a desire to stand on that edge and look at the sun shimmering on the distant horizon and say, "this is my place in the word."

That definitive outline, that never ending edge of Aotearoa is where you'll find some of the New Zealand's most desirable property.  Where spectacular dawns start the day and sensational sunsets end it.  And at night you are lulled to sleep by the soothing sound of an ocean breathing.

It is the fringe of heaven, and yet, it has some of the most affordable coastal property in the world.  Bayleys' annual Waterfront magazine is New Zealand's flagship portfolio of premium waterfront properties for sale.  It showcases the pick of beachfront, lakeside and riverfront properties that this country and close South Pacific neighbours such as Fiji and Vanuatu have to offer.  The magazine also contains a variety of waterfront related editorial articles which we hope you find of interest.  Enjoy the read.
